Journey through the heart of the southern forests on this secure walk which is suspended high above the forest floor and offers a spectacular panoramic outlook of Tasmania’s unique tree species.
The Tahune AirWalk extends for 597 metres, taking you on an amazing tour through the treetops of naturally regenerated forests. Discover the changing scenery of this gorgeous forest through different stages of its lifecycle.
Some of the tree species visible include the tall eucalypts, celery top, King Billy pine, blackwood, sassafras, beech, myrtle, flowering leatherwood and the gigantic Huon pines which date back to over a thousand years. While on the walk, enjoy scenic views of the Hartz Mountains and the Tasmanian World Heritage Area.
The most exciting part of the Tahune AirWalk is towards the end where you will be able to view the confluence of the Picton and Huon Rivers within the surrounding forest. The viewing platform is a cantilever, suspended 48 metres above the ground. Catch your breath as you are engulfed by the rush of the two rivers, the song of many a bird, and the scent of an age-old mystical forest.
A gentle walk, the Tahune AirWalk is a unique way to experience the beautiful natural environment of Tasmania.

The Swinging Bridges at McKay's Track
The historic McKay's Track is set along the river’s edge, giving you the opportunity to experience the Huon and Picton Rivers up close. The track includes a walk directly over the mighty rivers via two swinging bridges suspended from the riverbanks. These spans across the Picton River replace a similar suspension bridge that was washed away during a flood about 40 years ago. Experience the thrill of watching these powerful rivers rush right beneath your feet.
McKay’s Track was originally developed in the 1830s to provide access through dense rainforest from the banks of Huon River to the untouched stands of Huon pine in the remote foothills of the Arthur Range. Along the way, you will pass the ruins of the house occupied in the 1870s by Police Constable Francis McPartlan, a former Irish convict whose duty it was to walk McKay’s Track to check timber licences.
Designed to take you on a discovery tour of the area's early European history.
